Welcome to Wickfair Toy Poodles! Located In South
Louisiana
Dogs have always been my passion. Both sets of
grandparents were involved with the sport of dogs, so it seemed a natural
progression for me. As a child, my Sunday afternoons were always
spent at my grandfather’s house, where I pored over his issues of dog
magazines, and books, and played with his German Shepherds.
My brother, Michael Sweeney, and I started showing in
Jr. Showmanship back in the late 60’s. We each had a Standard
Poodle. We both still show dogs to this day. (We might run a little
slower, though!)
Prior to being involved in toy poodles, I owned, and
showed Cardigan, and Pembroke Welsh Corgis, finishing many champions, and
obedience title holders. I was fortunate enough to have several top
ten, and group winners. I loved the Corgis, but put dog showing
aside in the 90’s for more than ten years to finish raising my two boys.
After they left for college, I was ready to return to my first love.
Having always loved the poodles, and needing a
smaller breed, I chose toy poodles. I had my brother, and his
partner, David Brock of Roundabout Poodles to mentor me. I was also
fortunate enough to meet many other nice poodle people to advise me,
including my friend, Bev Rangel of
Talbot Toy Poodles, and my friends, Becky Abshire, and Donna Thomas of
Reann Toy Poodles. There are so
many others who have been very kind, and supportive.
I keep only a few dogs. All are cherished pets.
I only breed a litter or two a year, and all are carefully planned, hoping
for show prospects. All breeding dogs are Optigen tested, and get
yearly CERF exams, as well as having knees checked for patellar luxation.
I constantly research nutrition, and health care issues to try to do the
best I can for my poodles. I am also currently a member of the
Creole Poodle Club, an affiliate club of The Poodle Club of America.
What wonderful little dogs these toy poodles are!
